Raw Nerve is Australia's fastest
offshore sailing yacht, she holds a number of internationally
recognised race records and has an impressive list of line
honours victories.
Owner/Skipper Martyn Riley commissioned the unique design in 1996, looking for a yacht that
would challenge convention and ultimately lead to new developments in the field of multihull design.
His drive was rewarded in 2000 when the 'Southern Ocean 50' design became the first boat in the history of
the Australian Design Awards
to gain the award. It was one of only three designs out of a field of over
200 to gain more than one award.
Stuart Bloomfield was responsible for the development of the design at Crowther Multihulls
and has continued to work on all of the developments of the boat whilst at Crowther and
since starting up his own design firm.

Raw Nerve Wins Fourth Gladstone Race
|
|
Raw Nerve sailed to her fourth line honours victory in the Brisbane to Gladstone Race on Saturday April 15th in a time of 26h00m02s. Raw Nerve proved that she is still the fastest boat in the country after sailing away from the fleet off the line in very light air after a delayed start she was never passed and sailed home to a well earned win in a difficult light air race. Sporting a new mainsail from Sail Force, the 56' catamaran still managed to gain third place on OMR and performance handicap despite being hampered by the lack of a screecher (blown up in Sydney) and having to battle adverse current up the river to the finish. |

Raw Nerve wins Brisbane to Gladstone Race for the third time
|
|
Raw Nerve has won the Brisbane to Gladstone multihull race for the third time. This year saw the multihulls starting from Manly for the first time and meant that the multihull race was 310nm compared with the 308nm course sailed in previous years and still sailed by the monohull fleet. Raw Nerve established a solid position a the head of the fleet as they sailed out of Moreton bay, but fickle conditions overnight saw the leaders grouped close together by sunrise. A weather system filled in from the South that bought the fleet close to the leaders, but allow Raw Nerve to sail away at speeds as high as 27 knots to a solid victory. |
